OMAHA, Neb. -- The 12th-ranked Bellevue University baseball team posted a 4-1 non-conference victory over Briar Cliff University Sunday night at Werner Park in the regular season finale for both teams.
The Bruins improved to 44-7-1 on the season Briar Cliff fell to 12-31 overall.
Bellevue, the MCAC regular-season champions, will host the four-team MCAC Tournament on May 1-3 at Westgate Field in Omaha. Times and pairings will be announced on Monday.
After 3 1/2 scoreless innings, the Bruins took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth on a bases-clearing double by Brian Embery.
The Chargers cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the sixth, scoring on a Bruin throwing error by third baseman Nate Mullins.
Bellevue added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a solo homer to left field by Tanner Moore, giving BU a 4-1 advantage.
Moore retired the side in the top of the ninth, picking up his team-leading seventh save of the season, forcing a ground out before ending the game with two-consecutive strikeouts.
Taylor Stark (4-0) earned the win, allowing four hits with one unearned run, while striking out two and walking none in six innings of work.
