PADUCAH, Ky. -- William Jewell (Mo.) College scored 14 runs in the final four innings to defeat the Bellevue University baseball team 15-1 Thursday afternoon in the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round at Brooks Stadium.

The loss dropped the Bruins to 31-21 overall while the Cardinals improved to 34-19 this season.

Bellevue will play the loser of the Southern Poly versus Tennessee Wesleyan game tomorrow (May 13) at 10:00 a.m.

The Bruins opened the scoring in the second inning with a RBI double to left center field by first baseman Brandon Thompson that allowed Tylor Pavel to come around to score from first base.

A RBI groundout by Tyler Harrison tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning.

The Cardinals scored three runs on two hits in the sixth inning to take a 4-1 lead. WJC scored on singles by Smith and Joe Summers and added a RBI sacrifice bunt by Harrison.

WJC added two more runs in the seventh on a RBI fielder's choice by Cory Eilers before scoring on a fielding error by Pavel.

Freddie Adamson hit a three-run home run to break the game open in the eighth inning, 9-1.

The Cardinals ended the scoring in the ninth with six runs on five hits.

Eric Locke took the loss for the Bruins falling to 7-2 this season. The junior from Polson, Mont., allowed four runs on five hits with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. Jamison Miller earned his ninth win of the year, pitching eight innings allowing just one run.

The Bruins were out-hit, 13-6, and committed three errors.
