Ed Lehotak

Ed Lehotak became Bellevue University’s athletic director in January of 2009, replacing Jerry Mosser who retired after 35 years with the Bruin athletic department. In his nine years as athletic director, the Bruins captured seven-straight Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Cups. In addition, Lehotak was named the 2020-21 and 2016-17 North Star Athletic Association Athletic Director of the Year. He twice earned the same honor in the MCAC.

Lehotak was instrumental in adding six new sports to the BU Athletic Department doubling the number of BU offerings, starting with the addition of men's and women's golf in 2011-12 and women's basketball in 2016-17. The 2017-18 academic year will mark the beginning of the emerging program of eSports to the BU lineup. Men's and women's cross country commenced in 2018-19, bringing the total number of athletic offerings to 12 sports.

In 2019-20, Lehotak was elected to the Board of Directors of the NAIA Athletic Directors' Association (ADA).

The first softball coach in Bellevue University history, Lehotak relinquished his softball coaching duties after the completion of the 2009 season to concentrate solely as the school’s athletic director. In 13 years as the Bruins’ softball mentor, Bellevue compiled a record of 471-222 (.680), won or shared the regular season and/or postseason conference tournament 12 times and qualified for the regional tournament 11 times. In addition, the Bruins also qualified for the NAIA National Tournament on three occasions.

The 2009 MCAC Coach of the Year, Lehotak led the Bruins to the regular-season league title, finishing undefeated at 12-0 and 29-13 overall. During his 13 softball seasons, Lehotak coached 14 NAIA All-Americans, one honorable mention All-American, and numerous Academic All-Americans.

Lehotak and his wife, Peggy, live in Omaha. He has three daughters, Michala, Carrie, and Amanda, and three grandchildren, MaKinnley, Ellie Jo, and Dylan Rae.
