  • Title:
    Assistant Coach
  • Year:
    1st season

Dan Mader begins his first season on the BU coaching staff after serving as a volunteer and graduate assistant at NCAA Division I powerhouse Nebraska for three seasons.

Mader is currently the associate director and master coach at the VCNebraska volleyball club based out of Lincoln. He coached the VCN 17 Elite team to a silver medal at the 2016 AAU Nationals in the Premier division. He also coaches the 16 and 14 Elite programs while also serving as the master coach for the high school prep group. In addition, he also runs the 7-9th grade Train and Play program.

Mader served as a graduate assistant and volunteer assistant coach at the University of Nebraska from 2013-15, helping guide the Huskers to the 2015 NCAA Division I national championship. Nebraska advanced to the Elite Eight in both 2013 and 2014.

For three seasons, he coached with the Sports Performance Volleyball Club in Chicago. In 2012, Mader led the 18 Red team to an AAU national championship in the club division. The following season, Mader assisted with the 18 Elite team that won the national title in the open division.

“The volleyball world is a huge networking field for many coaches,” said Siedlik. “This is no exception. I met Dan at a boys volleyball camp where my son attended and ironically this got the ball rolling. Dan can add many different aspects to our program, and also make Steve and I better coaches. At this point in my own career, I love to learn more from other coaches so I can be challenged myself.”

Prior to his coaching career, Mader played collegiately as a setter at Indiana University Purdue-Ft. Wayne from 2009-12. He competed in 96 matches during his four-year career at IPFW under AVCA Hall of Fame coach Arnie Ball. A setter, Mader amassed 2,231 career assists, good for seventh in IPFW history. He also added 34 aces, 274 blocks and 279 digs in 96 career matches for the Mastodons.

Mader assists in all phases of training and will specialize in training the outside hitters.

“I’m excited to be a part of BU volleyball,” stated Mader. “Coach Siedlik and Coach Field have built a very strong program. I hope to help the team continue their success and compete at their highest level.”

Mader earned his bachelor’s degree in general studies with minors in anthropology and communications from IPFW in 2012. He is a native of Lombard, Ill.
