Nelson places in top 10 at Blazing Tiger Invite

ASHLAND, Neb. -- Madison Nelson continued her outstanding senior cross country campaign with a tenth-place finish at today's Blazing Tiger Invite. Doane University and College of St. Mary's were the host schools for Saturday's meet at Mahoney State Park, which featured six of the top 20 NAIA teams in the latest NAIA national ranking.

Nelson's tenth-place finish among 303 finishers was just six seconds from her school record for the six-kilometer distance. Third-ranked University of St. Mary (Kansas) put all five of their scorers in the top twelve to claim the team title.

Also competing for the Bruins today was Alicia Rivera Camargo, placing just outside of the top half in 153rd at 25:07.0. Ashley Guatemala-Ortiz returned from a long absence to run 27:29.8 for 262nd place, while Alyssa Brandes made her season debut, running 32:24.0 for 300th.

Today's meet marked the end of the regular season for the Bruin cross country squad as they now point to the NSAA championship meet on November 8 in Valley City, N.D. The championship team and the next four non-qualifying individuals will qualify for the NAIA National Championship in Columbia, Mo., on November 22.
