The Bruin women's cross country team was able to enter only three athletes in the Holiday Inn Express Classic hosted by Dordt University on Saturday but strong performances were turned in by all of the entrants.

The meet, held on the campus of Dordt over the well-manicured grounds of the Dordt Prairie, provided a great setting for cross country under cloudy skies and seasonable temperatures. The meet was won by Division II nationally ranked Augustana of Sioux Falls who placed six runners in the top ten, followed by the No. 14 ranked Dordt Defenders in second. The Bruins were short of the required five scorers and did not receive a team score.

Individually, Lorelei Hayden continued her comeback from injury running to 53rd place among the 105 finishers. Her time of 21:08.8 was nearly a half-minute faster than last week's run at Briar Cliff. Sarah Felten was the second runner for the Bruins placing 74th in 22:05.3. Alisiara Hobbs, also coming back from a lengthy injury period, was able to put together another solid race as she finished 80th in a time of 22:14.1

Head Coach Craig Christians: "The injury and illness bug jumped on us hard last week but I believe we'll get the whole squad back for the Mount Marty meet in a couple of weeks. I thought Lorelei, Sarah, and Ali all took advantage of the opportunity to race and gained some valuable experience from it. All three of them have struggled with injury and I admire their desire to make themselves better."

The Bruins will be back in action in two weeks (Oct. 23) when they travel to Yankton, SD for the Mount Marty Invite. The meet will be held at the Fox Run Golf Course with the women's race going off at 10:30.
