Athen, Galas net weekly conference honors

BISMARCK, N.D. -- Seniors Sierra Athen and Olivia Galas were both honored today with weekly conference honors for their performances last week in the Bruins' four matches at the Aquinas/Cornerstone Volleyball Invitational in Grand Rapids, Mich. Athen was named the North Star Athletic Association Attacker of the Week and Galas was tabbed as the NSAA Setter of the Week for the fourth-consecutive week.  

BU went 3-1 in the tournament with victories over Judson, Aquinas, and St. Xavier, before falling in the finale to Cornerstone, 3-1. 

Athen averaged 3.53 kills and 4.13 digs per set while recording double-doubles in all four matches. She hit at a .304 attacking efficiency in the four matches while adding five service aces and four blocks. In BU's 3-1 win over SXU, Athen registered 15 kills on .344 hitting while adding 14 digs and two blocks. She finished with 14 kills, 19 digs, and two service aces in the loss to CU.  

Galas notched a triple-double against Cornerstone, finishing with 52 assists, 12 digs, and 10 kills while adding a match-high three service aces. She averaged 11.29 assists, 2.71 digs, and 2.00 kills per set while hitting at a stellar .440 attacking clip. She also added eight service aces and four blocks on the week.  

The Bruins will open conference play this Wednesday, Sept. 14, when they travel to Madison, S.D., to take on Dakota State University beginning at 6 p.m.
