Galas, Fountain earn All-American honors; Galas named National Setter of the Year

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Junior setter Olivia Galas (Bellevue, Neb.) and freshman outside hitter Eve Fountain (Omaha, Neb.) both earned NAIA and AVCA All-American honors in an announcement made today by both organizations. Galas earned first-team honors while Fountain was named to the third team. In addition, Galas was named the NAIA National Setter of the Year. 

Galas became the first player in Bellevue University volleyball history to become a two-time first-team All-American as she was also a first-time honoree in 2019. 

In addition to being named the co-North Central Region Player of the Year, Galas was also honored as the North Central Region Setter of the Year. Fountain was named the North Central Region Freshman of the Year. 

Galas was named the NSAA co-Player of the Year and the NSAA Setter of the Year in 2020. She led the Bruins and the league with 11.15 assists per set, which ranked sixth nationally. She recorded 11 double-doubles on the season while accumulating 1,015 total assists, 239 digs, 99 kills, and 39 blocks. Galas was named the NSAA Setter of the Week four times this season and also garnered NAIA National Setter of the Week accolades on Oct. 13.

Fountain collected NSAA Freshman of the Year accolades while leading BU with 345 kills and 296 digs. She also led the Bruins with 13 double-doubles on the season. Fountain ranked second in the league with a .270 hitting percentage and was second with 3.8 kills per set. She was also sixth in the league statistics with 0.31 service aces per set. Fountain earned both NSAA and NAIA National Attacker of the Week honors earlier this season.

The Bruins finished the 2020 season with a 17-7 overall record, making their 13th appearance in the NAIA National Tournament. Bellevue won its first-ever NSAA regular-season title with a 12-2 league record. The Bruins finished second in the NSAA Tournament earning an at-large berth to the NAIA National Tournament. BU defeated Texas Wesleyan to earn a trip to the NAIA National Championship final site in Sioux City, Iowa.
