4 Bruins named All-Region; Galas earns co-Region POY

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo -- Highlighted by co-Region Player of the Year Olivia Galas, four Bruins were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) all-North Central Region team announced today. Joining Galas on the first team was junior outside hitter Sierra Athen, freshman outside hitter Eve Fountain, and junior middle blocker Coree Lipovsky.

In addition to being named the co-Region Player of the Year, Galas was also honored as the Region Setter of the Year. Fountain was named the Region Freshman of the Year. Trish Siedlik was named the Region Coach of the Year. 

Galas was named the NSAA co-Player of the Year and the NSAA Setter of the Year in 2020. She led the Bruins and the league with 11.15 assists per set, which ranked sixth nationally. She recorded 11 double-doubles on the season while accumulating 1,015 total assists, 239 digs, 99 kills, and 39 blocks. Galas was named the NSAA Setter of the Week four times this season and also garnered NAIA National Setter of the Week accolades on Oct. 13.

Fountain garnered NSAA Freshman of the Year accolades while leading BU with 345 kills and 296 digs. She also led the Bruins with 13 double-doubles on the season. Fountain ranked second in the league with a .270 hitting percentage and was second with 3.8 kills per set. She was also sixth in the league statistics with 0.31 service aces per set. Fountain earned both NSAA and NAIA National Attacker of the Week honors earlier this season.

Lipovsky earned first-team all-NSAA accolades for the second-straight year after averaging 1.99 kills per set with a team-leading .288 hitting percentage. She was second on the team with 0.76 blocks per set.

Athen recorded 12 double-doubles on the season while earning her second-consecutive first-team all-Region and all-NSAA nod. She finished second on the team with 243 kills and third with 261 digs.

Siedlik guided the Bruins to their first-ever NSAA regular-season title with a 12-2 league record. The Bruins (17-7) finished second in the NSAA Tournament earning an at-large berth to the NAIA National Tournament. BU defeated Texas Wesleyan to earn a trip to the NAIA National Championship final site in Sioux City, Iowa. 

The Bruins finished the 2020 season with a 17-7 overall record, making their 13th appearance in the NAIA National Tournament.
