KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Pool play pairings were announced today for the 2020 NAIA Volleyball National Championship beginning April 27 inside the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa. The field will be split into eight pools of three teams with the top team in each pool advancing to a single-elimination bracket, culminating in the national championship match on May 1.
The Bruins' opponents in Pool A include No. 2 Park University and No. 16 Dordt University. Bellevue advanced to the final site with a 3-2 victory over Texas Wesleyan on Saturday at Bellevue West High School.
The action begins on Tuesday, April 27 with the first of two days of pool play action. The top team from each pool will advance to single-elimination bracket play. The quarterfinals will take place on Thursday, April 29 with the semi-finals on Friday, April 30. The national championship match is set for Saturday, May 1.
Ranked No. 18 nationally, Bellevue (17-5) will begin pool play with an 8:30 a.m. match on April 27 against No. 2-ranked Park (20-3). The Bruins will take on No. 16 Dordt (15-6) at 3:00 p.m. on April 27.
BU has not faced Park or Dordt this season.
This is BU's 13th appearance in the National Tournament and the 10th time they have qualified for the final site. Bellevue also reached the final site in 2000, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2016, 2017, and 2019.
With their victory over Texas Wesleyan on Saturday, Bellevue now owns a 16-24 (.400) all-time record in National Tournament play.
The NAIA Network – the association's official video-streaming home – will broadcast all matches excluding the semifinals and championship matches live at the 2020 NAIA Volleyball National Championship final site in Sioux City, Iowa. The video platform, powered by Stretch Internet, allows users access to live video, statistics, and social interaction on a number of devices, including mobile. Single-day passes can be purchased for $9.95, while a pool play pass is $24.95 (April 27-28) and a championship package is available at $39.95.
The semifinal and championship matches will be streamed via ESPN3.
