MADISON, S.D. -- Junior outside hitter Sierra Athen and junior setter Olivia Galas have both been honored by the North Star Athletic Association for their performances last week in helping the Bruins to a 3-0 record in conference road matches.
Athen was named the NSAA Attacker of the Week for the second time in her career while Galas earned NSAA Setter of the Week accolades for the third time this season and the 18th time in her career.
Athen became the 19th player in school history to eclipse the 1,000-kill mark in BU's 3-1 victory at Dickinson State University last Friday night. She recorded double-digit kills totals in all three victories for the Bruins.
Athen collected a pair of double-doubles on the week with 18 kills and 14 digs in the four-set win at Dickinson State. She also produced 10 kills and 13 digs in BU's sweep at Valley City State University.
Athen is currently second on this year's squad with 118 total kills and fourth with 110 digs.
Galas averaged 11.45 assists and 2.55 digs in guiding the Bruins to the three conference road wins on the week.
She produced a pair of double-doubles in BU's two wins at Dickinson State. In the first victory, she finished with 47 assists and 11 digs along with two service aces. In the second victory over the Blue Hawks, Galas registered 45 assists and 10 digs, along with four kills and an ace. Galas capped off the week with 34 assists, five kills, seven digs, and two blocks in BU's three-game sweep at VCSU.
Galas currently leads the NSAA with 11.02 assists per set.
The Bruins will travel to La Crosse, Wis. this Friday, Mar. 19, for a 7 p.m. contest at Viterbo University.
