Fountain guides Bruins to sweep over Saints

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Freshman Eve Fountain pounded a match-high 15 kills to lead the 12th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-18) sweep over visiting Presentation College Saturday afternoon in North Star Athletic Association action at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

With the win, the Bruins improved to 8-2 on the season and 6-0 in the NSAA. Presentation fell to 4-9 overall and 2-5 in league play. The Bruins now have a two-match lead in the league standings. 

Fountain hit a blistering .583 in the match with just one hitting error in 24 attempts while adding five digs. 

Jacki Apel hit .286 with eight kills, three digs, and a block. 

Olivia Galas directed the BU offense to a .349 hitting percentage, dishing out 33 assists while adding nine digs and three kills on five swings. 

Morgan Moelter and Saige Jones paced the PC offense with six kills apiece. 

Laura Babcock led all players with 13 digs.  

The Bruins overcame a slow start in the opening set, falling behind 4-0 after committing three attacking errors. Trailing 14-13, the Bruins closed the set on a 12-4 run, highlighted by Fountain's six kills on nine errorless swings, to earn the 25-18 victory. 

Bellevue committed just one attacking error in the second set, hitting a sizzling .579 on the frame while cruising to the 25-11 victory. Fountain, once again, led the offense, with five kills on seven swings. 

After racing out to an 11-5 lead in the third, the Saints battled back to pull to within two points (14-12) following three-consecutive BU attacking errors. The Bruins closed the set on a 12-3 spurt to earn the sweep with the 25-18 victory.  

The Bruins return to action next Friday, Mar. 12 when they travel to Dickinson, N.D. for a rare doubleheader at Dickinson State University, beginning at 4 p.m. (central time).
