BU sweeps No. 16 MTU, tops JBU at GV Classic

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The 15th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team picked up a pair of wins Friday at the Grand View University Classic, sweeping No. 16 Montana Tech 3-0 (28-26, 27-25, 25-18) before taking down John Brown University 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 26-24, 25-19) in the finale. 

The Bruins are now 19-5 on the season after the two wins at the Charles S. Johnson Wellness Center.  

Bellevue will return to conference action next Friday, Oct. 18, when they travel to Dickinson, N.D. for a 4 p.m. match at Dickinson State University. 

Bellevue 3, Montana Tech 0

Sierra Athen recorded her team-leading 13th double-double of the season, finishing with 17 kills and 11 digs to lead the Bruins to the 3-0 sweep over the Orediggers. Athen hit .343 in the match while adding a service ace and a pair of assists. Paige Holdsworth contributed with seven kills and eight digs in the sweep. 

Olivia Galas directed the BU offense to a .250 hitting percentage, registering 44 assists, to go along with nine digs, six kills, two service aces, and a pair of blocks. 

Madi Evans anchored the Bruin defense with a match-high 15 digs to go along with three assists. 

MTU was paced by Maureen Jessop, who pounded 12 kills on 25 errorless swings. Karina Mickelson added 10 kills, seven digs, and three blocks.  

The BU sweep marked the third victory over a ranked team for the Bruins this season.

Rosa Reed-Bouley recorded a season-high 14 kills on .313 hitting to lead the Bruins to the four-set victory over John Brown in the nightcap. Reed-Bouley added three digs and a pair of blocks in the win. 

Athen pocketed her 14th double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs. Freshman Paige Holdsworth also registered a double-double with 10 kills and a match-high 19 digs. 

Galas was the third Bruin who collected a double-double, finishing with 43 assists and 12 digs. 

Taylor Glover led the Golden Eagles with 14 kills and 10 digs in the loss.
