HASTINGS, Neb. -- The 22nd-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday against ranked teams to open play in the Bill Marshall Classic hosted at Hastings College in the Lynn Farrell Arena. The Bruins dropped a hard-fought five-setter to third-ranked Grand View University in the opener before sweeping host and 14th-ranked Hastings College in the nightcap.
The loss to GVU snapped the Bruins' four-match winning streak.
Bellevue (5-1) will conclude play in the tournament with a 10 a.m. match on Saturday against 10th-ranked Eastern Oregon University.

Sierra Athen, Coree Lipovsky, and Andrea Carson combined for 45 kills to pace the Bruin offense as BU was outlasted by third-ranked Grand View University, 3-2 (23-25, 31-29, 23-25, 25-21, 15-5) in the opening match of the Bill Marshall Classic.
Athen finished with a match-high 16 kills to along with 11 digs for her second double-double of the season. Lipovsky added 15 kills on .357 hitting while adding two blocks.
Carson pounded 14 kills for her second double-figure kill total of the season.
Olivia Galas produced a double-double with 29 assists and 13 digs to go along with a pair of kills.
Freshman Nicole Meyer contributed with a match-high five blocks off the bench along with four kills on .273 hitting.
Alexa Aldrich-Ingram led the Vikings with 15 kills and 14 digs. Miranda Greathouse also produced a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs. Trystin Luneckas collected the Vikings' third double-double with 31 kills and 13 digs.

After a two-hour break, the Bruins rebounded with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-19) victory over Hastings to conclude the opening day of play.
The balanced BU offense saw six players record at least five kills in the victory. Rosa Reed-Bouley and Athen paced the Bruins with eight kills apiece. Athen added a team-high 12 digs.
Galas dished out 32 assists while adding seven kills on .545 hitting and six digs.
Sidney Craig contributed with a season-high 11 digs and three assists, as the BU defense held the Broncos to a .058 hitting percentage.
Danielle Bruha led Hastings with eight kills. No other Bronco had more than three kills in the match.
