Bruins sign Elmwood Murdock standout Meyer

The Bellevue University volleyball program under the direction of head coach Trish Siedlik announced today the signing of 6-0 middle blocker Nicole Meyer (Murdock, Neb./Elmwood-Murdock HS) to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at BU beginning in the fall of 2019.

Meyer earned honorable mention all-state honors in 2018 and was a two-time all-conference honoree under head coach Nichole Justesen. She finished her senior season with 220 kills, a .273 hitting percentage, and 53 total blocks.

"Nicole was a wonderful late addition surprise to our team where we need to add depth to the middle and right side," said Siedlik. "Those positions always train together, so knowing that we have a slew of interchangeable parts on our young squad is even more attractive as our program is looking for its first North Star Athletic Association title. We expect Nicole to compete and be a force at the net."

An excellent student, Meyer was named to the school's Honor Roll for 16 quarters.

She plays club volleyball for Premier Nebraska under head coach Heidi Oetken. Her 2016 and 2018 club teams qualified for USA Junior Nationals in Indianapolis and Detroit.

Meyer, the daughter of Susan and Vince Meyer, becomes the seventh signee in BU's 2019 recruiting class. She joins earlier signees middle blocker Kloe Ruth (Rising City, Neb./David City Aquinas HS), setter Riley Burcham (Georgetown, Texas/Gateway College Prep)  middle blocker Paige Hays (Glenwood, Iowa/Glenwood HS), outside hitter Paige Holdsworth (Omaha, Neb./Millard North HS), defensive specialist/outside hitter Jacey Klassen (Hampton, Neb./Hampton HS), and middle blocker Brooklyn Hundt (Underwood, Iowa/Tri-Center HS).

The Bruins finished the 2018 season with a 23-12 overall record, advancing to the NAIA National Tournament for the third-straight season and the 11th time in school history.
