
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- Fourth-ranked Viterbo University used a balanced offense with three players hitting .500 or better as the V-Hawks snapped No. 20 Bellevue University's five-match winning streak with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-16) sweep in North Star Athletic Association volleyball action Friday night at the R.W. Beggs Sr. Gymnasium.
Viterbo improved to 18-4 on the season, taking over sole possession of first place in the league standings with a 6-0 conference mark. Bellevue fell to 14-5 overall and 5-1 in league play.
Freshman Sierra Athen led the Bruins with eight kills and five digs. Shayla Scanlan, Rosa Reed-Bouley, and Andrea Carson each chipped in with six kills.
Freshman setter Olivia Galas nearly recorded a double-double, finishing with 26 assists and nine digs.
Senior middle Aubrey Aspen led the V-Hawks with 13 kills on .632 hitting. Sophomore middle Lydia Xu hit .582 with eight kills, one error on 12 swings.
The Bruins led 22-17 in the first set and 23-20, before VU used a 5-0 scoring run, thanks to three BU attack errors, to pull out the opening set, 25-23. The V-Hawks led from start to finish in the final two sets to record the sweep.
BU will travel to Forest City, Iowa tomorrow to take on Waldorf University in a league match beginning at 5 p.m.
