
MADISON, S.D. -- Senior rightside hitter Shayla Scanlan and sophomore outside hitter Andrea Carson combined for 25 kills to lead the No. 24-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team to a 3-0 (27-25, 25-16, 25-17) sweep at Dakota State University in the North Star Athletic Association opener for both teams Wednesday night at the DSU Fieldhouse.
Bellevue improved to 10-4 overall and 1-0 in the NSAA with the win. DSU fell to 4-4 on the season and 0-1 in league play.
Scanlan finished with 14 kills on a sizzling .522 hitting percentage, while adding two blocks. Carson pounded 11 kills on .409 hitting with two digs and a block.
Freshman setter Olivia Galas directed the BU offense to a .204 hitting percentage, finishing with 33 assists, eights digs, and five kills.
Madi Evans and Sierra Athen anchored the Bruin defense as both posted double-digit dig totals with 13 and 10 digs respectively.
Kaylee Spreier and Barbara Briceno recorded seven kills each to pace the DSU offense.
Sparked by seven-straight points, the Bruins overcame a 20-11 deficit in the opening set, to fight back for the 27-25 win, before cruising to the 25-16 and 25-17 wins in games two and three.
Bellevue will be idle until next Friday, Sept. 21, when the Bruins travel to Dickinson, N.D. for a 6 p.m. (central time) NSAA contest at Dickinson State University.
