Scanlan, Galas net NSAA weekly honors

MADISON, S.D. -- Senior rightside hitter Shayla Scanlan and freshman setter Olivia Galas were both recognized by conference officials as this week's North Star Athletic Association weekly volleyball honors were announced today. Scanlan was named the NSAA Attacker of the Week while Galas garnered NSAA Setter of the Week accolades. 

Scanlan, who earned NSAA Attacker of the Week honors for the third time in her career, averaged 3.08 kills per set while hitting .390 in leading the Bruins to a 3-1 record on the week at the GoSarpy.com Labor Day Classic. She also added a team-high 1.38 blocks per set. 

Scanlan collected double-digit kill totals in three of the four matches including a season-high 15 kills in BU's five-set marathon loss to Rocky Mountain. She hit .526 with 10 kills on 19 errorless swings in the Bruins' sweep over Baker to open the tournament. Scanlan currently leads BU with a .295 attack percentage and 1.07 blocks per set and is second with 2.63 kills per set. 

Galas earned her first NSAA Setter of the Week honor in her career while directing the BU offense to a .236 hitting percentage and a 3-1 record on the week. She averaged 12.4 assists and 1.64 digs on the week and added three service aces. 

Galas dished out a career-high 56 assists in the five-set loss to Rocky Mountain. She collected a double-double with 42 assists and 10 digs in the Bruins' 3-0 sweep over York. Galas is currently second on the team with three double-doubles on the season. She ranks 14th nationally with 10.52 assists per game this season. 

The Bruins will host Peru State College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5 in a non-conference contest at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. Live stats and live video will be available for the match.
