MADISON, S.D. -- For the second-straight week, sophomore Maddie Squiers has earned North Star Athletic Association Setter-of-the-Week honors for her performances in the Bruins' five matches last week. It marked the ninth time in her young career she has won the weekly conference honor.
Squiers helped lead Bellevue to a 4-1 record on the week. She averaged an impressive 11.5 assists per set. Squiers recorded at least 50 assists in the first three matches of the week (50 assists in a 3-2 road victory at Concordia University; 59 assists in a four-set victory versus William Woods; and 58 assists in a five-game win over No. 24-ranked Madonna).
She also posted double-doubles with 11 digs versus William Woods and 16 digs against Madonna. Squiers collected 22 kills (1.1 kills per set), 50 digs (2.4 digs per set) and 15 block assists (0.7 blocks per set) in the five matches last week.
Last Week
No. 20-ranked Bellevue rallied back for a dramatic 3-2 win on the road at Concordia (Neb.) on Aug. 30. The Bruins saved three match points in the fourth set before escaping with a five-game non-conference road win. BU won its first three matches of the Premier/Bruin Labor Day Classic before falling short in the final match of the tournament. Bellevue defeated William Woods 3-1 and No. 24-ranked Madonna 3-2 on the first day of the tournament on Sept. 1. The Bruins swept Peru State in three sets before falling to Morningside in four sets on Sept. 2. That loss snapped the Bruins' five-match winning streak. BU is 6-3 overall on the season.

The Bruins will travel to Springfield, Mo. on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 8-9 for four matches at the Evangel Volleyball Classic.
