Field named NAIA National Assistant Coach of the Year

PRESS RELEASE

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that former Bellevue University Assistant Coach and current Hastings Head Women's Volleyball Coach Matt Buttermore has been selected as the 2016 USMC/AVCA NAIA National Coach of the Year, while current Bellevue University Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach Steve Field has been tabbed as the 2016 AVCA NAIA National Assistant Coach of the Year.

The AVCA will formally present both coaches their awards at the 2016 Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon in Columbus, Ohio on Thursday, December 15. The luncheon is held in conjunction with the 2016 AVCA Convention.

Steve Field's Fast Facts

  • Just completed his eighth season with the Bruins
  • Went 32-12 on the season, and reached the NAIA Tournament for the ninth time in school history
  • Trains the setters and middles and assists in practice planning, scouting, film, and recruiting
  • Junior middle blocker Mikaylah Gillespie and freshman setter Maddie Squiers took home AVCA All-Region honors
  • Squiers was named a second team NAIA All-American and also earned AVCA National Freshman of the Year accolades
  • Gillespie earned honorable mention NAIA All-American honors
  • Field won the AVCA NAIA North Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year honor
  • Named the North Star Athletic Association Assistant Coach of the Year
