LA CROSSE, Wis. -- After taking the first tet, the No. 17 Bellevue University volleyball team wasn't able to hold on as they were edged by No. 23 University of Jamestown in four sets on Friday evening in a North Star Athletic Association semi-final match at Viterbo University's R.W. Beggs Senior Gymnasium.
The Jimmies picked a 3-1 victory with set scores of 23-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-22. With the loss, BU sees their overall record slip to 30-10 on the season while Jamestown improves to 25-11.
The Bruins must now have to wait and see whether they've done enough to earn a bid to the NAIA National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa or if they'll be playing in an Opening Round match on Saturday, Nov. 19.
Tomorrow's championship match is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. against the winner of Friday night's match-up between top-seeded and No. 3 Viterbo and fourth-seeded Valley City State. The NSAA Tournament Champion will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
Maddie Squiers picked up her 14th double-double of the year for the Bruins finishing the evening with 36 assists and 15 digs.
Taylor Holz and Lauren Colpitts joined Squiers with double-digit kill nights, recording 17 and 13, respectively.
Hope Lambrecht led the Bruins with 11 kills while Pakalana Helekahi and Mikaylah Gillespie each finished with nine. It wasn't enough, however, as the Bruins hit just .099 as a team compared to Jamestown's .192 attacking effort.
Haley Glasoe and Kaitlin Anderson shared match-high honors with 12 kills apiece. Glasoe hit .400 and Anderson checked in at .222 for the Jimmies.
Nicole Warren finished with 30 digs to lead the UJ defense while Aubrey Beaumont and Julina Niemeier each contributed 14. Beaumont finished with a double-double, adding 31 assists to her dig total and Josie Hegerle chipped in 16 assists.
