Squiers named NAIA Setter of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- For the second time this season Bellevue University freshman Maddie Squiers (Kearney, Neb.) has been named the NAIA's national Setter of the Week for her performances during the week of Oct. 17-23.

Last week, Squiers averaged 13.9 assists per set while directing the Bellevue offense to a .285 hitting percentage in their four victories. She added eight kills, 31 digs, and six blocks (one solo) on the week.

Squiers accumulated 166 assists for the week, including 45 in the Bruins' victory over College of the Ozarks. Against Mayville State she piled up 43 assists and eight digs after turning in consecutive 39 assist performances against both Peru State and Valley City State, respectively.

Bellevue won all four matches they played last week to improve their overall record to 23-8, including a pair of conference matches to up their league record to 9-2.

Squiers has been named NSAA Setter of the Week on five occasions this season.

On the season, Squiers ranks first nationally in assists with 1,279 and fourth in assists per game with an average of 11.22. She is one of two Bruins to appear in every one of their 114 sets this season.

Squiers becomes the first Bruin to ever win the award twice in a season as well as twice during a career. She was previously chosen for the national award on Sept. 13.

Dordt senior middle blocker Brooke Granstra was named Attacker of the Week while Friends senior outside hitter Andrea Kappelman was chosen as Defender of the Week.

The Bruins return to the court on Friday, Oct. 28 when they host Jamestown at 7 p.m. in a crucial NSAA match.
