
MADISON, S.D. -- Sophomore Shayla Scanlan pounded 12 kills on .647 hitting to lead the 20th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-16) sweep at Dakota State University Friday night in North Star Athletic Association action at the DSU Fieldhouse.
The Bruins improved to 18-8 overall and 6-2 in league play. DSU dropped to 7-16 on the season and 2-6 in the NSAA.
Scanlan's 12 kills came on 17 attempts with only one error. Rachel Wald added eight kills, while Mikaylah Gillespie connected on seven kills with three digs and a block.
Maddie Squiers directed the BU offense to a .273 hitting percentage, dishing out 38 assists while adding four kills, five digs and a service ace.
Taylor Holz (12), Verenice Chaparro (11) and Michaela Gardner (11) combined for 34 digs to pace the Bruin defense. Chaparro added a career-high five service aces in the win.
Carly Rozzell led the Trojans with nine kills
The Bruins will head to Aberdeen, S.D. tomorrow (Oct. 15) for a 6 p.m. conference clash at Presentation College.
