Walker named all-Region, Scanlan Freshman of the Year

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Senior setter Beth Walker highlighted the Bruins' selections on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NAIA all-North Central Region team announced today.

Freshman Shayla Scanlan earned the North Central Region Freshman of the Year honors while also gaining honorable mention all-Region accolades.

Walker, who earned her third first team all-Region honor of her career, was previously honored as the North Star Athletic Association's Setter of the Year, while also earning first team all-NSAA accolades. She was named the NSAA Setter of the Week on three occasions this season.

Walker led the 2015 Bruins with 27 double-doubles, 1,343 assists and a .298 hitting percentage, while collecting a team second-best 416 digs. She finished her BU career ranked third in school history with 4,789 career assists, eighth with 1,579 career digs and ninth with 124 career service aces.

In the final national statistics, Walker ranked 19th in total assists. 

Scanlan earned first team all-NSAA and NSAA Freshman of the Year honors this season, finishing second on the team with 373 kills, 113 blocks and a .224 hitting percentage. She recorded double-figure kill totals in 21 matches, while collecting at least four blocks in 17 matches. 

The Bruins finished the season with a 22-17 overall record, advancing to the NSAA semifinals, while receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' top 25 poll.
