JAMESTOWN, N.D. -- Four Bellevue University volleyball athletes were named to the all-North Star Athletic Association volleyball teams announced today by the conference office. The Bruins also brought home two of the major awards in a vote by the league's coaches.
Senior setter Beth Walker, sophomore libero Taylor Holz and freshman rightside hitter Shayla Scanlan all earned first team honors. Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Wald was named to the second team.
In addition, Walker was named the NSAA's Setter of the Year and Scanlan was tabbed as the league's Freshman of the Year.
Walker earned her third first team all-conference honor of her career. She led the Bruins with 27 double-doubles, 1,343 assists and a .298 hitting percentage, while collecting a team second-best 416 digs. Walker was named the league's Setter of the Week on three occasions this season. In the national statistics, Walker ranked eighth in the country in total assists.
Walker finished her BU career ranked third in school history with 4,789 career assists, eighth with 1,579 career digs and ninth with 124 career service aces.
Holz led the Bruins with 681 digs, the fourth-highest single season total in school history. She was third on this year's squad with 30 service aces. Holz was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week twice this season.
Scanlan finished second on the team with 373 kills, 113 blocks and a .224 hitting percentage. She recorded double-figure kill totals in 21 matches, while collecting at least four blocks in 17 matches.
Wald led the Bruins with 413 kills and was second with 41 service aces, while adding 218 digs and 38 total blocks. She notched double figures in kills in 21 matches during the season.
The Bruins finished the season with a 22-17 overall record, advancing to the NSAA semifinals, while receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' top 25 poll.
