Biola/Red Lion-Anaheim Summer Slam Tournament

LA MIRADA, Calif. -- The Bellevue University volleyball team dropped a straight-set decision against (RV) Westmont in their final match at the Biola Summer Slam Tournament on Friday evening.

Match Two: (RV) Westmont 3, Bellevue 0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-14)

Senior Beth Walker posted 20 or more assists for a fourth straight match but it wasn't enough to overcome a hot-hitting Westmont team as Bellevue fell in straight sets.

Westmont came out strong, outhitting the Bruins .364-.167 in the opening set as the Warriors came away with a narrow 25-21 victory.

The second set started as a back-and-forth affair before Westmont was able to go on a 4-0 run to grab a 12-9 lead forcing Bellevue to take a timeout in an effort to stem the momentum. BU faced their largest deficit of the set at 19-13 before reclaiming the serve where Walker served the team to four consecutive points to pull within one at 19-18. The Warriors proved to be too much, however, winning six of the final seven points of the set for a 25-19 win and a commanding two sets to none lead.

Six straight points was key, as it turned a one-point deficit into a 13-8 advantage for Westmont in the third set before the Warriors went on to claim a 25-14 victory and the match. Westmont out-scored BU 18-6 to close the match.

Offensively, Rachel Wald led the way with seven kills while freshmen Shayla Scanlan and Lauren Colpitts finished with five kills apiece while sophomore Taylor Holz led the defense with nine digs.

Bellevue's (1-2) next match will be on Tuesday, Aug. 25 as they travel to Seward, Neb. to take on Concordia at 7:00 p.m.
