Biola/Red Lion-Anaheim Summer Slam Tournament Central
LA MIRADA, Calif. -- The Bellevue University volleyball team fell to Great Falls, 3-1, at the Biola Summer Slam Tournament on Thursday evening. The Bruins ended up splitting on day one with after disposing of #23 Lewis-Clark State by a count of 3-1 earlier in the day.
Match Two: Bellevue 1, Great Falls 1 (25-19, 14-25, 25-17, 25-22)
Senior Beth Walker (10 kills, 33 assists, 8 digs) recorded her first double-double of the season but it wasn't enough as Bellevue, in battle of 1-0 clubs, came up short in a 3-1 loss to Great Falls.
The Bruins struggled to get into a rhythm offensively in the opening set, hitting just -0.081 as a team while committing 12 attack errors against just nine kills. As a result the Argos came away with a 25-19 win and 1-0 lead in the match.
BU bounced back strong in the second set, hitting at a blistering .462 clip on their way to a 25-14 win to level the match at 1-1. Great Falls responded with a convincing 25-17 third set win to take a 2-1 lead before going on to secure the 3-1 victory with a 25-22 victory in the fourth, and final, set.
Freshman Shayla Scanlan turned in an eight kill night (.217) as did junior LaJaida Even while sophomores Hope Lambrecht (6 kills, .214) and Rachel Wald (7 kills) were also active on the offensive end. Sophomore Taylor Holz led the Bruins with 13 digs while freshman Erin Warren and senior Victoria Bowens chipped in eight and six, respectively.
Head Coach Trish Siedlik:
"This was a disappointing loss - especially coming off a win earlier in the day - because we couldn't consistently execute our game plan. We made adjustments too late and didn't win the big points. However, this was a great learning experience for us and we will move on and look ahead to improving tomorrow."
Bellevue (1-1) is back in action tomorrow with games at 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. against No. 16 Southern Oregon and (RV) Westmont, respectively.
