Bruins sweep weekly conference honors

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. -- Sunny Bell was named the Hitter of the Week, Meghan Evans the Libero of the Week and Beth Walker was awarded Setter of the Week as the 17th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team swept the weekly Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference awards in an announcement made today by the league office.

Bell, the tournament MVP at the Ashford Saints Invitational, recorded 68 kills and hit .470 in the Bruins' five wins last week. She also tallied six block assists. This marks the second time in Bell's career she has been named the conference's Hitter of the Week.

Evans averaged 3.31 digs/set and added 23 set assists and two service aces. At Ashford University on Sept. 14, she tallied 10 digs and a season-high eight assists.

For the second-straight week, Walker was named the MCAC Setter of the Week. She averaged 11.8 assists/set with 36 digs, 19 kills, eight block assists and eight service aces. Against AU she notched her seventh double-double of the season, recording 45 assists and 17 digs.  

The Bruins (13-3, 1-0 MCAC) will return to action tomorrow (Sept. 17) with a home match scheduled against College of Saint Mary at 7:00 p.m. at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. The contest will also serve as BU's annual Dig Pink match to help raise awareness for breast cancer.
