Bellevue University head volleyball coach Trish Siedlik announced today the signing of LaJaida Even (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly Shell Rock HS) to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at BU beginning this fall.
Even joins earlier signees Jacey Wiggins (Gothenburg, Neb./Gothenburg HS), Addison Smith (Papillion, Neb./Papillion-LaVista HS) and Bridgette Baden (Hebron, Neb./Thayer Central HS) in the 2013 recruiting class.
Even, the daughter of April and Stuart Moore and Ken and Jacquie Even, is a 5-9 rightside/middle hitter. She was a member of Waverly Shell Rock's 2011 Iowa state championship volleyball team, earning second team all-conference honors under head coach EaVon Woodin.
"Hands down, LaJaida is an athlete," said Siedlik. "Finding a player like LaJaida at this point in the recruiting season is compared to winning the lottery. She is fast, jumps well, has a strong arm, great wrist turn, and a solid block. Put all of that together and you have a solid recruit."
Even also helped lead WSRHS to a semifinal appearance in the 2012 Iowa State Volleyball Tournament and was a member of three State Tournament squads.
"We are anxious for LaJaida to get on the court and get to work," added Siedlik. "Adjusting to the speed of the collegiate game will be her challenge, but she is a quick learner. The staff is excited that she has chosen to be a Bruin."
A four-time particpant in the Iowa State Track and Field Championships, Even was a member of the 2011 state championship shuttle hurdle relay team and was asked to partipate in the Senior All-Star Track Meet. She helped lead the Go-Hawks to a third place finish in Class 3A at the 2013 Iowa State Track and Field Championships.
