No. 8 Hastings sweeps Bruins in NAIA National Tournament

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- No. 8-ranked Hastings College snapped the Bruins' 13-match winning streak, posting a 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-21) sweep over the 23rd-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team in its second pool play match of the 33rd annual NAIA Volleyball National Championship Wednesday night at the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Iowa.

Jordan Broady recorded her team-high 17th double-double of the season, posting 21 assists and 10 kills.

Annie Benson led the Bruins with 12 kills and seven digs.

Libero Meghan Evans anchored the defense with a match-high 14 digs.

After scoring the first point of the match, the Bruins never led again as the Broncos hit .483 with a pair of blocks en route to a 25-13 win in the opening set.

The Broncos used an early 9-4 run to take an 11-6 advantage in the second set. After BU pulled within two, 20-18, HC responded by scoring five of the final six points to win, 25-19. The Broncos notched five blocks as the Bruins were plagued by 10 hitting errors in the stanza.

After three-straight points gave BU an 8-7 lead, the Broncos answered back by scoring four the next five points to take an 11-9 advantage. With the game tied at 19-all, HC ended the match on a 6-2 run to win, 25-21.

GPAC Player of the Year Kendra Schwein paced the Broncos with 21 kills and eight digs.

The Bruins will conclude pool play action tomorrow with a 5:45 p.m. match against No. 18 MidAmerica Nazarene University.
