Broady leads Bruins in upset over No. 13 Grand View

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Senior setter Jordan Broady recorded her fifth triple-double of the season to lead Bellevue University to a 3-2 (25-27, 25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 15-6) upset over No. 13-ranked Grand View University Tuesday night in non-conference action at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

Bellevue improved to 24-9 on the season with the win. The Vikings fell to 23-6 overall. 

Broady finished with 46 assists, 11 kills, and 11 digs while guiding the BU offense to a .197 hitting percentage. Sydney DeBoer tied a career high with 16 kills on .448 hitting while adding two blocks and a service ace.

Caitlyn Rueth pounded 15 kills and added five digs and a pair of service aces. Annie Benson was the fourth Bruin in double figures, finishing with 14 kills and 13 digs for her 10th double-double of the season. 

Meghan Evans anchored the BU defense with 22 digs and a pair of service aces. 

All-American Devon Jensen and Kadie Subbert both finished with 17 kills to pace the Viking offense.

The Vikings used a 6-1 run to end the opening set to pull out a 27-25 win. Jensen and Subbert paced GVU with five kills apiece to lead the comeback. 

The Bruins raced out to 6-2 lead before holding onto a 25-23 second-set win. Benson (7) and DeBoer (5) combined for 12 of the Bruins' 17 kills in the second frame.

BU carried the momentum into the third set, winning 25-18, paced by Broady and Rueth's five kills apiece.   

The fourth set featured 12 ties and five lead changes as neither team was able to control the set. The Vikings used a 9-3 run to erase a 20-16 deficit to win, 25-23.

The Bruins hit .400 and scored six of the first eight points to cruise to a 15-6 fifth set win. The Vikings hit -.125 with five hitting errors. Sunny Bell and DeBoer each recorded three kills.

The Bruins host conference rival College of the Ozarks on Friday (Oct. 19) beginning at 7 p.m. at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. The match will be a fundraiser for the Dig Pink campaign. "Dig Pink" is an annual fundraiser to help promote breast health and cancer awareness and to raise money to contribute to the research and compassionate support projects Side-Out funds. This event gives the volleyball community the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of all breast cancer patients.
