Balanced Bruins defeat Webber International, 3-1

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Senior setter Jordan Broady directed a balanced Bruin offense as Bellevue University defeated Webber International University, 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-16) Saturday at the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Tournament. 

Bellevue (21-7) will conclude the tournament with a 4:30 p.m. match today against South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. WIU fell to 11-7 on the season. 

Six Bruins registered at least six kills, while Broady recorded her team-leading 11th double-double of the season with 51 assists and 13 digs, to go along with seven kills, a block and an ace. 

Sydney DeBoer led the offense with a career-high 15 kills on .303 hitting while adding a match-high five blocks. Symone Faulkner finished with 11 kills on .476 hitting. Sunny Bell recorded 10 kills and Annie Benson notched nine kills and a match-high 19 digs. 

The first set featured 12 ties with neither team leading by more than four points. The Bruins suffered four hitting errors in the final five points as the Warriors escaped with the 25-23 win. 

A 5-0 run midway through the second set broke open a tight game, propelling the Bruins to the 25-18 win. BU closed the game on a 6-1 run, sparked by a pair of kills from Benson and Faulkner and a service ace from DeBoer. 

Courtney Hendricks came off the bench to spark the Bruins in the third frame, registering three kills on three swings as Bellevue pulled away for the 25-20 win. DeBoer and Faulkner also notched three kills in the third set. 

DeBoer collected five kills and three blocks and Faulkner pounded four kills on five swings as the Bruins ran away with the fourth set, 25-16.
