No. 7 Embry-Riddle downs Bellevue in four sets

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Seventh-ranked Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University used 15 kills from Taylor Martin to record a 3-1 (27-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-12) victory over Bellevue University Friday night in the Embry-Riddle Tournament. 

Bellevue fell to 20-7 on the season, while the Eagles improved to 13-4 overall. The Bruins defeated Bethel (Tenn.) 3-1 in BU's first match of the tournament earlier Friday afternoon. 

Annie Benson led the Bruins with 13 kills, but committed 14 errors. She collected 12 digs to notch her seventh double-double of the season.

Sunny Bell added 10 kills and three blocks. Sydney DeBoer was the only Bruin to hit above .250, registering nine kills on .316 hitting to go along with four blocks. 

Jordan Broady recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 45 assists and 11 digs, along with three kills and three blocks. 

Meghan Evans anchored the Bellevue defense with 18 digs. 

Bellevue was plagued by 38 attacking errors, hitting just .071 in the loss, while also committing six service errors. 

The Eagles fought off two BU set points, escaping with the 27-25 win in the opener, capped by a block from Morgan Shatttuck on Bell. Benson recorded six kills to pace the Bruin offense in the first set. 

ERAU closed the second set on a 9-4 run to claim the 25-21 victory, taking a commanding 2-0 advantage. Benson and DeBoer each recorded three kills in the second frame.

Bellevue used an 11-5 scoring run end the third game, pulling out the 25-21 victory. The Bruins recorded four blocks and hit .233, led by Bell's four kills. 

The Bruin offense never got on track in the fourth set, suffering 14 attacking errors while hitting -.178. No Bruin registered more than two kills as the Eagles cruised to the 25-12 victory to end the match. 

The Bruins will conclude the tournament on Saturday (Oct. 6) with a 9 a.m. match against Webber International University and a 4:30 p.m. contest with South Dakota School of Mines & Technology.
