Bruins cruise past York, 3-0

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University volleyball team recorded its 12th sweep of the season, defeating York College 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-9) in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action Tuesday night at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.

The Bruins, who never trailed in the match, improved to 18-6 and 4-0 in conference play while the Panthers  slipped to 3-12 overall and 1-4 in the MCAC.

BU hit .417, its second highest hitting percentage this season.

Caitlyn Rueth (10) was the lone Bruin with double figure kills as five different players recorded four or more kills.

Sunny Bell recorded eight kills while Courtney Hendricks chipped in six.

BU scored the first five points en route to a 25-11 win in the opening set. The Bruins hit .333 and were led by Symone Faulkner, Rueth and Annie Benson who each tallied three kills apiece.

Leading 9-7, the Bruins ended the second set on a 16-3 run to take the game, 25-10. YC was plagued by three service errors and seven hitting errors. Hendricks paced BU with four kills on six swings and added a block.

The Bruins scored 11 of the first 14 points as they cruised to a 25-9 win in the final stanza. BU hit a sizzling .600, led by Bell and Rueth who each pounded six kills.

The Bruins will be idle until next Tuesday, Oct. 2, when they host College of St. Mary beginning at 7 p.m. at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
