No. 7 Biola sweeps Bruins

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The 21st-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-17) to No. 7 Biola (Calif.) University Wednesday afternoon at the NAIA National Tournament at the Tyson Event Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

The loss dropped the Bruins to 0-2 in the tournament and to 34-13 overall on the season. Biola improved to 2-0 in pool play and 27-8 on the year.

Bellevue was led by 13 kills by Maureen Wardian while Jordan Broady collected a match-high 30 assists. Katy Gregory led the Bruins with a match-high 12 digs.

In the first set, which featured seven ties, the Bruins were led by five kills from Wardian. A 4-1 Biola run midway through the set gave the Eagles their first lead in the match, 17-15. Bellevue was able to cut its deficit down to three, 23-20, but were unable to get any closer, dropping the first set, 25-21. Bellevue hit .278 while Biola finished the first set with a hitting percentage of .394.

Biola seized control of set two using a 7-4 run to take a 16-11 lead. The Bruins were able to cut the Eagles' lead down to 16-14, but Biola finished the set by winning nine of final 16 points to win the set, 25-21. Bellevue hit just .167 and had seven attacking errors while Biola had a hitting percentage of .250.

With the third set tied at 10-all, Biola went on an 8-4 run to take an 18-14 lead. A Biola attacking error cut the deficit down to three, 18-15, but the Bruins wouldn't get any closer as Biola ended the match on a 7-2 run to win the third set, 25-17.

Biola finished the match with a hitting percentage of .312 while Bellevue hit .158 for the match.

The Bruins will conclude pool play Thursday, Dec. 2 with a 1 p.m. match against Lindenwood (Mo.) University.
