LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Bellevue University volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday at the Madonna University Classic, defeating the University of Michigan-Dearborn 3-1 (23-25, 25-12, 25-16, 25-16) in the opener and falling to No. 22 Madonna University 3-1 (17-25, 22-25, 25-21, 22-25) in the final match of the tournament.

The Bruins are now 27-11 overall on the season.

Senior Jaclyn Thorson pounded a season-high 18 kills on .484 hitting, while adding a match-high four blocks to lead the Bruins in the four-game win over UM-D. Thorson was named to the all-tournament team as the Bruins finished 2-2 overall.

Junior Kali Schnacker tacked on 15 kills and junior Maureen Wardian finished with 10 kills.

Freshman Sydney DeBoer hit a sizzling .583 with seven kills and no errors in 12 attempts while coming off the bench. She also nabbed three blocks

Sophomore setter Jordan Broady guided the BU attack to a .260 attack percentage, collecting 45 assists, four digs, two service aces, and two kills.

Senior libero Katy Gregory continued her strong play, registering a match-high 15 digs, while adding a pair of service aces and two assists. Junior Ashley Wurdeman was also in double figures in digs with 13.

After struggling to find a rhythm in the opening set, Bellevue dominated the final three sets, trailing only once in the three wins at 1-0 in the fourth game.

Schnacker and Wardian both collected 15 kills and Wurdeman recorded her first career double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs in the loss to the Crusaders. Wardian hit .382 in the match and added a match-high six blocks.

Defensively, the Bruins were led by Gregory's 24 digs. Broady notched 43 assists, eight digs, two kills, and a service ace.

Bellevue outblocked Madonna 11-8, but the Crusaders held an 82-64 advantage in digs.

The Bruins will be idle until Tuesday, Nov. 2, when they resume conference play with a 7 p.m. match at College of St. Mary.
