Schnacker leads Bellevue in sweep over Flames

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Junior Kali Schnacker pounded 16 kills on .333 hitting to lead the Bellevue University volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-7, 25-22, 25-18) sweep over College of St. Mary Tuesday night at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.

The Bruins improved to 20-6 on the season and 8-1 in the MCAC. College of St. Mary fell to 10-10 overall and 2-2 in league play.

Schnacker, who added five digs and four blocks, posted her 13th double-figure kill performance of the season.

Junior middle blocker Maureen Wardian added 10 kills and a season-high eight blocks. Sophomore Jordan Broady collected her team-leading eighth double-double of the year with 38 assists and a season-high 16 digs.

Freshman Meghan Evans also posted a season-high in digs with 15. Senior Katy Gregory was also in double figures with 11 digs.

The Bruins hit a blistering .481 in the opening set with 13 kills, no errors, on 27 swings. Senior Jaclyn Thorson led the way with four kills on .571 hitting. The set was highlighted by a six-point serving run by senior Kylie Davis.

The two teams battled back and forth in the second frame which featured eight ties and three lead changes before Bellevue went on a 3-0 run to close out the set at 25-22. Schnacker and junior Ashley Wurdeman each had five kills in the game.

The Bruins went on an 8-1 scoring run midway through the third set to pull away for the 25-18 win. Schnacker connected on eight kills, while adding four digs in the final set. 

The Bruins will travel to Kearney, Neb. on Thursday, Oct. 7 for a 6 p.m. contest at NCAA II Nebraska-Kearney.
