Bruins bounce back with a pair of wins

BARTLESVILLE, OKLA. -- After dropping its first conference match of the year on Friday night at College of the Ozarks, the Bellevue University volleyball team bounced back Saturday with a pair of wins over conference opponents. The Bruins breezed past Southwestern Christian 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-12) and swept Oklahoma Wesleyan 3-0 (25-9, 28-26, 25-13). Both matches were played at Oklahoma Wesleyan.

The Bruins improved to 19-6 overall and 7-1 in the MCAC.

Bellevue 3, Southwestern Christian 0
The Bruins were led by freshman Annie Benson, who connected for 12 kills in the win over SCU, as all 15 Bruins saw action in the match. Freshman Sydney DeBoer added six kills on eight swings, while adding a match-high four blocks.

Senior Katy Gregory paced the Bruin defense with 16 digs. Senior Kylie Davis collected her first double-double of the season with 20 assists and 10 digs.

Bellevue 3, Oklahoma Wesleyan 0

Senior Jaclyn Thorson led the Bruins with 13 kills, while adding a block. Benson added 12 kills and five digs. Junior Kali Schnacker notched 10 kills and three blocks.

Sophomore setter Jordan Broady dished out 37 assists, while adding nine digs and four kills. Freshman Kirstine Linebaugh led the Bruins defensively with 13 digs. Gregory added 10 digs and a service ace.

Bellevue will host College of St. Mary on Tuesday, Oct. 5 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
