Lions snap BU's 12-match winning streak

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Lindenwood used a balanced attack with four players recording double-figure kill totals as the Lions snapped Bellevue's 12-match winning streak with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-21) victory in the final evening match Friday at the Bruin Premier Classic at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.

Witht the loss, Bellevue fell to 16-4 on the season. Lindenwood improved to 13-8 overall.

Earlier in the day the Bruins swept Sioux Falls 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-23) in their opening match of the tournament.

Junior Kali Schnacker led the Bruins with 14 kills, five digs, and three blocks. Senior Jaclyn Thorson added 12 kills and a block and junior Maureen Wardian contributed with 11 kills on .370 hitting, while adding a match-high four blocks.

Lindenwood was led by Krista Yoder with 15 kills, followed by Katie Weber (14), Kristy Dreisewerd (11), and Ellen Fandry (10).

Sophomore setter Jordan Broady collected her team-high sixth double-double of the season with 44 assists and 11 digs, while adding seven kills.

Senior Katy Gregory led the Bruin defense with a season-high 22 digs. Meghan Evans was also in double figures with 10 digs.

Despite five service errors, Bellevue pulled out the opening set 25-23. Bellevue hit .297, led by Wardian's four kills on .500 hitting. 

Schnacker registered four kills to pace BU in the second set, but Yoder and Fandry combined for 10 kills for the Lions who hit .372, evening the match with the 25-19 win.

The Bruins' hitting percentage dipped to .095 in the third set with no Bruin hitting above .200. Dreisewerd pounded seven kills on .778 hitting as LU took the third set 25-22.

Thorson and Schnacker each recorded four kills in the fourth, but the Lions went on an 8-3 run to close out the match with the 25-21 fourth set win.

The Bruins will face fifth-ranked Northwestern College at 11 a.m. Saturday and William Woods University at 1 p.m. in continuing aciton at the Bruin/Premier Classic.
