Bruins extend streak to 11

OLATHE, Kan. -- The Bellevue University volleyball team ran its winning streak to 11 matches following a pair of victories Saturday at the MidAmerica Nazarene Invitational. The Bruins survived a scare from Evangel in the opener, pulling out a 3-2 win. Bellevue then swept the host school, MidAmerica Nazarene in the final match of the tournament.

Bellevue finished a perfect 4-0 in the tournament. The 20th-ranked Bruins are currently 15-3 overall on the season.

Bellevue 3, Evangel 2
After breezing through the opening two sets, the Bruins held on for a dramatic 25-17, 25-16, 19-25, 21-25, 15-13 win over Evangel. The third-set loss snapped Bellevue's 29-set winning streak. The Bruins had not lost a set since falling 3-1 to 19th-ranked Olivet Nazarene on Sept. 3 in Bellevue.

Ashley Wurdeman led the Bruins with a career-high 16 kills, while Jordan Broady collected a season-high 48 assists along with nine digs in the win. Andrea Johnson recorded a career-high four service aces.

Katy Gregory tied Broady in digs with nine. Maureen Wardian notched a match-high four blocks as the Bruins registered six team blocks.

Bellevue 3, MidAmerica Nazarene 0
The Bruins defeated MidAmerica Nazarene 25-15, 25-15, 26-24 in the final match of the MNU Invitational.

Jaclyn Thorson led BU with 10 kills and three blocks. Broady dished out 27 assists. Kirstine Linebaugh collected two service aces and Gregory led the BU defense with nine digs.

The Bruins hit .413 in the match and recorded six team blocks.

The Bruins return home next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 24-25, when they host the 10-team Bruin/Premier Classic. The tournament will be played at two venues, the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center on the BU campus and the Lied Activity Center in Bellevue (2700 Arboretum Dr.)
