Schnacker leads Bruins in sweep over Peru

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Junior Kali Schnacker pounded 15 kills and hit for a career-high .682 attack percentage to lead the 20th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-12) sweep over Peru State College in MCAC action Tuesday night at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.

The Bruins have now won seven-straight matches, all in three-game sweeps. Bellevue improved to 11-3 overall and 5-0 in the MCAC. The Bobcats fell to 6-3 and 3-1 in league play.

Schnacker did not have an attack error and also collected a match-high five blocks in the victory. Senior Jaclyn Thorson added 10 kills on .381 hitting along with three blocks.

Sopohomore setter Jordan Broady directed the BU offense to a .348 hitting percentage, dishing out 33 assists while adding two service aces, six digs, and two kills.

Senior Katy Gregory led the Bruin defense with seven digs, while Kirstine Linebaugh and Andrea Johnson added six digs apiece. Bellevue held the Bobcats to a .065 hitting percentage in the match.

Peru State was led by Sarah Novak's 11 kills.

Bellevue never trailed in the opening set, racing out to a 5-0 lead on a pair of kills by Schnacker and another kill by Annie Benson. The Bruins expanded the lead to 10 points at 15-5 following kills by Schnacker and Meghan Evans. Three Bobcat attack errors and a kill by Thorson gave Bellevue its biggest margin at 21-7. Senior Kylie Davis closed out the set with a service ace.

Peru State took an early 6-4 lead in the second frame highlighted by three kills from Novak. With the score knotted at 8-8, the Bruins went on a 7-1 run capped by a pair of kills by Thorson and putaways by Benson and Schnacker. Peru battled back to close to within two points at 16-14 after a solo block by Toni Ratliff. Kills by Maureen Wardian and Schnacker and three-straight Bobcat hitting errors sparked a 5-0 Bruin run, giving BU a 21-14 margin. Broady ended the set on a kill from the right side, giving the Bruins the 25-20 win.

After trading the first 11 points of the third set, the Bruins went on an 8-1 run highlighted by a pair of service aces from Johnson and kills from Wardian and Ashley Wurdeman. Bellevue built a 12-point lead at 20-8 capped by a pair of kills by Thorson and another from Schnacker. After another kill from Schnacker, the Bruins closed out the match with a block by Wardian and Schnacker.

Bellevue will travel to Olathe, Kan. this Friday-Saturday, Sept. 17-18, to participate in the MidAmerica Nazarene Tournament.
