6th-ranked Biola sweeps BU at Red Raider Classic

ORANGE CITY, Iowa --  Sixth-ranked Biola University defeated No. 17 Bellevue University 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-18) in opening action Friday at the Red Raider Classic on the campus of Northwestern College.

The loss drops the Bruins to 1-1 on the season. Bellevue will battle Dakota Wesleyan at 8:30 p.m. Friday night in continuing action at the tournament.

Freshman outside hitter Annie Benson led the Bruins with eight kills, as the Bruins were held to a .143 hitting percentage in the match. Middle blockers Maureen Wardian and Jaclyn Thorson and rightside hitter Kali Schnacker each added six kills apiece.

Senior libero Katy Gregory paced the Bellevue defense with 13 digs. Sophomore Jordan Broady recorded her first double-double of the season with 27 assists and 12 digs.

The Eagles were led by Christine Douglas and Tavea Hampton who both notched 12 kills in the match.
