Bruins clinch MCAC title with sweep over Ozarks

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Senior Lace Puffer led three Bruin players in double figures as the 14th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team swept visiting College of the Ozarks 25-21, 28-26, 25-17 to clinch the MCAC regular season title for the third-straight year.

With the win, the Bruins improved to 26-6 on the season and 13-0 in the MCAC. College of the Ozarks fell to 23-10 and 11-2. Bellevue will host the MCAC Tournament next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13-14.

Bellevue has now won 12-straight matches and 28-consecutive regular season conference matches. The last team to defeat the Bruins in an MCAC match was College of the Ozarks on Oct. 19, 2007.

Puffer blasted a career-high 13 kills on .407 hitting to pace the Bruin attack.

Sophomore Kali Schnacker added 12 kills and a pair of blocks.

Senior Rachel Muller collected her team-leading 21st double-double of the season with 11 kills and 20 digs.

Defensively, Bellevue was led by junior Katy Gregory's 22 digs. Senior Gabby Pfannenstiel also added 17 digs in the win.

Freshman Jordan Broady produced her 10th double-double of the season with 49 assists and 12 digs.

The Bruins overcame an 18-11 deficit in the second set, but trailed only once in the first and third games.

Bellevue will host Oklahoma Wesleyan in the regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
