No. 14 Bruins sweep Briar Cliff

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Sophomores Maureen Wardian and Kali Schnacker combined for 23 kills and junior Katy Gregory collected a season-high 27 digs to lead the 14th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-15) sweep over Briar Cliff University in nonconference volleyball action Monday night (Oct. 12) at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.

The Bruins improved to 18-6 on the season with the victory while Briar Cliff slipped to 13-12.

Wardian blasted a match-high 12 kills on .455 hitting while adding three blocks. Schnacker hit .400 with 11 kills while adding four digs and a pair of blocks.

Senior Gabby Pfannenstiel joined Gregory in double-digits in digs with 13.

Freshman Jordan Broady directed the BU offense to a .233 attack percentage while dishing out 40 assists and adding three kills and a pair of blocks.

Wardian registered six kills in the first set including the final two as the Bruins led throughout.

The second set was much tighter, featuring 12 ties and four lead changes. Trailing 22-21, Bellevue rattled off four-straight points on kills by Lace Puffer and Wardian and two Charger attack errors to take  the set, 25-22, and a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

The Bruins raced out to a 4-0 lead in the third set and never trailed en route to the 25-15 victory. Schnacker led the offense in the final set with four kills on .600 hitting.

The Bruins will head to McPherson, Kan. this Friday, Oct. 16, for a rare volleyball doubleheader with Central Christian beginning at 5 p.m.
