Bruins finish 5th at ONU Classic with Saturday split

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- The 13th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team split a pair of matches against ranked teams Saturday, finishing fifth at the Olivet Nazarene Holiday Inn Express Tournament.

The Bruins dropped a hard fought 3-1 (25-14, 21-25, 29-27, 26-24) decision to No. 5 Northwestern (Iowa) College in the team's final pool play match, before rebounding for a 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-16) sweep over 16th-ranked Dordt in the tournament's fifth-place match.

The Bruins move to 12-3 on the season after the split.

Bellevue vs. Northwestern recap:
Senior Rachel Muller, who earned all-tournament team honors, led the Bruins with a season-high 19 kills, while adding 16 digs and two blocks. Sophomore Kali Schnacker collected her third-straight match with double-figures in kills, finishing with 15.

Junior Katy Gregory led the Bruins defensively with a season-high 25 digs, while senior Gabby Pfannenstiel added 20 digs, a season-high for her.

Freshman Jordan Broady dished out 48 assists, while adding four kills, seven digs and three blocks.

Junior Jaclyn Thorson led the Bruins with 14 kills on .400 hitting and a match-high four blocks.

Muller registered her team-leading 10th double-double of the season with 13 kills and 15 digs.

Gregory once again led the BU defense with 17 digs.

Up Next
Bellevue will host the six-team Bruin/Premier Classic next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25-26 in the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. The tournament will feature both of today's opponents, Northwestern and Dordt as well as fifth-ranked Georgetown (Ky.). 

Northwestern and Georgetown will meet in the Olivet Nazarene Classic championship match later tonight.
