No. 11 Bruins sweep Benedictine

BELLEVUE, Neb. --  The No. 11-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team had three players in double figures in kills as the Bruins swept Benedictine 3-0 (25-10, 25-20, 28-26) Saturday afternoon in the Bruin Labor Day Classic at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.

The Bruins, who have won four-straight matches, improved to 7-1 on the season. Benedictine fell to 3-2 overall.

Senior outside hitter Rachel Muller recorded her third-straight double-double with 11 kills and 17 digs. Sophomore Kali Schnacker also blasted 11 kills while adding a pair of blocks. Sophomore Maureen Wardian pounded 10 kills while collecting a team-high four blocks.

Bellevue hit .300 in the match and kept the Ravens to a .165 hitting clip while holding a 59-46 advantage in digs.

Junior Katy Gregory tied Muller with a match-high 17 digs.

The Bruins, who never trailed in the first two sets, overcame a three-point deficit in the third and saved two set points, one on a Raven ball handling error and another on a Schnacker kill from the leftside, before pulling out the 28-26 win, capped by another Schnacker blast.

Bellevue will conclude the tournament with an 8:15 p.m. match tonight against Midland Lutheran.
