Bellevue sweeps Black Hills State

ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- The 11th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team concluded play at the Red Raider Classic with a 3-0 (27-25, 25-15, 25-20) sweep over Black Hills State Saturday afternoon on the Northwestern College campus.

The Bruins finished the tournament with a 3-1 record, with wins over Sioux Falls, Mayville State and Black Hills State. Their lone loss came in a 3-0 setback to fourth-ranked Azusa Pacific earlier Saturday.

Bellevue handed the Yellow Jackets their first loss of the tournament. BHSU received votes in the NAIA Volleyball Top 25 Preseason Coaches' Poll.

The Bruins were led by junior Jaclyn Thorson who collected a match-high 10 kills and seven blocks.

Senior rightside hitter Lace Puffer hit .545 in the match with six kills, no errors in 11 attempts. She also added three total blocks.

The BU defense was paced by Katy Gregory's 14 digs.

Freshman Jordan Broady directed the Bruin offense to a .265 attack percentage while registering 33 assists and eight digs.

The Bruins open conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 2 with a 4 p.m. match at York.
