Bruins open season with 3-1 win over USF

ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- The 11th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team opened the 2009 season with a 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 18-25, 25-16) win over the University of Sioux Falls Friday afternoon at the Red Raider Classic on the campus of Northwestern College.

The Bruins continue action at the tournament with a 6:30 p.m. match tonight against Mayville State.

Senior outside hitter Rachel Muller led the Bruins with 13 kills on .265 hitting while adding 10 digs and one block.

Junior libero Katy Gregory paced the defense with 18 digs.

Sophomore middle blocker Maureen Wardian recorded a match-high six blocks while adding eight kills. Freshman setter Jordan Broady added 31 assists, four kills and six digs in her first career match.

On Saturday, Bellevue will face fourth-ranked Azusa Pacific at 9 a.m. before concluding the tournament with a 1 p.m. against Black Hills State.
