Bruins earn 2009-10 AVCA Team Academic Award
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Bellevue University volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award today for posting a 3.52 team grade-point-average during the 2009-10 academic year. An AVCA record 450 teams at all levels of volleyball, the most in the 18-year history of the award, received the honor.

"One of the most impressive things about this team is that they were able to achieve a 3.71 team GPA during the fall when we were in season and travelling all of the time," said head coach Trish Siedlik.

The Bruins were one of just 34 NAIA women's volleyball programs to receive the award and the only team from the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference. It marked the third time in school history the Bruins have won the prestigious award.

The award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year and maintained at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA.

Highlighting the Bruins superb academic performance were seniors Rachel Muller and Gabby Pfannenstiel and juniors Jaclyn Thorson and Katy Gregory who were all named 2009-10 Daktronics NAIA Scholar Athletes for maintaining a minumum 3.50 GPA.

Bellevue begins the 2010 season on Friday, Aug. 20 when it hosts Mayville State beginning at 7 p.m. in the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
