Bruin Track opens 2025 season at Mount Marty

YANKTON, S.D. -- A limited number of Bruin track athletes kicked off their indoor seasons at Saturday's Mt. Marty Opener in Yankton, SD. This was the first of five indoor meets leading to the final North Star Athletic Association indoor track championship on February 16.

Two Bruin women kicked off the afternoon in the mile run, with Alicia Rivera Camargo and Ashley Guatemala finishing nearly side by side in 6:13.07 and 6:14.11, respectively. In the men's mile, Luis Casallas Vega ran to a fifth-place finish with a 4:35.04 clocking, while Alejandro Corona Martinez recorded a lifetime best of 5:09.82.

The highlight of the day came in the men's 3,000-meter run, with Richard Marcoux and Xavier Mallow sweeping the top two places. Marcoux's winning time of 8:51.20 is second best in Bruin history, and he is now sitting at the top of the NSAA leaderboard. Mallow was just two seconds back in 8:53.29 and is number two in the NSAA. Jose Lara also had a strong showing, placing sixth in 9:18.53.

Finally, the 800-meter run saw Ashley Guatemala running her second race of the day at 2:51.19, while Kimberly Kisoryo made her indoor debut at 3:33.73. For the men, Alejandro Corona Martinez recorded a 2:30.05 in his second race of the day.

The Bruins travel to Seward, Neb., next Friday, Jan. 17, for the Polar Dog Invite hosted by Concordia University.
